Your Questions About Relationship Coaching

William asks…

Relationship Coaching help, feedback please thanks?

hi, I have a question.. I am getting relationship coaching certification, which at its core is different than therapy but do share some similarites if you’re familiar with the 2 fields. But regardless, I help singles and couples achieve their relationship goals and ultimatly achieve successful, happy and healthy relatioships. I help them overcome any personal obstacles getting in the way as well including issues of confidence, low self esteem, communication skills etc. So that being said, my first question is… would any of you choose to work with someone like me, at the rate of about $450/mnth for weekly 1-hr sessions? Second question, for those who would consider hiring me, what wording do you think sounds more attractive: Relationship Coach? or Relationship Consultant? Third, if I were to name my company would you be more drawn to this name: Elysium Coaching or Elysium Consulting?
or Elysium Love Coaching or Elysium Love Consulting? Thanks, any feedback much appreciated.

LOL, I’m probably much better qualified, so, no I probably wouldn’t go to a “relationship coach” of the caliber you are discussing. Sounds like a fancy way to get around licensing as a therapist. How much schooling, how long is your internship, what are your qualifications? While there may be a place for you, I would need to know a lot more about your qualifications before going to or recommending you to anyone. What is your theoretical approach, what are your techniques, and who oversees your business practices?

Trying to become a ReLaTionShip COACH! Where do I start?

Hi, I am trying to become a relationship coach, but I don’t know where to start! There are so many different programs, such as the ICF, CoachU, etc, and I don’t know where to begin, what program to go through, which hours transfer to who, etc. I think that the ICF requires a certain # of hours in order to be certified, but where can I get those hours? I went to their website and it was still confusing. What programs are approved by the ICF? It doesn’t look like the ICF offers any training hours on ‘relationshipcoaching, only life coaching. Do I hav to get my life coaching certification first, then the relationship coaching certification? About what are the costs for these prgrams? I just want to get my liscence/certification/credent… within the year. Help me, where do I begin on this path, and then what do I do?? Thanks.
PS: i am a college graduate and graduated with a BA in organizational communication (a great blend of interpersonal and business comm), with a minor in Psychology. I am 23, but granted I have been “coaching” my friends and family for years now, although i never called it that. I am the first person anyone goes to for help, advice, motivation, support, for many aspects of life, most notably, relationships. I have had many healthy relationships and am currently in one.

Actually if i were you i’d probably start with having your own successful relationship

if you have one all ready, then great. I was merely stating that no one is going to listen to you if you aren’t successful in relationships yourself.

Ironically, my mother (as we speak) is graduating from ICF. She is a life coach…not relationship coach—although she is a clinical psychologist.

From what I understand…she went to California on four different occasions, each time taking one 40-hour class. I believe the cost was $1,000 per class.

In between classes, she did 75 hours of pro bono coaching and 50 hours of paid coaching. She found most of her clients by word of mouth. She also spoke with her assigned mentor on the phone for one hour, every other week. The cost of the mentor was $80 per session.

The most important thing in a coaching course is that it’s accredited. The website below only offers accredited courses. It will provide you more details than I can.

You seem very passionate about this line of work. It reaps great rewards and I’m sure you will be excellent! My very best to you…

What are the requirements to be a relationship coach??

Hi, I’ve always studied psychology and my main goal was to be a psychologist or marriage/family counseler. However, i wasn’t sure if I really wanted to go through all those years of schooling, plus I stumbled across the field of “relationship coachin” and I realized that this is definately my callig. My BA is in communication studies. What is required to be a Relationship Coach? to start your own practice? any kinds of tests, schooling, etc? what is the typical salary for this profession? what do relationship coaches normally charge per session, and are they popular? Any help with these questions would be great! thanks..

Lukes Love Life answers:

There are currently no states that regulate coaching but there is a movement for it to be recognized as a licensed profession – just so it can be taxed, etc..

I am a coach who specializes in relationshps but there are corporate coaches and other specialties within the field. I have developed my own program that I use for couples that incorporates what I’ve learned from many different sources.

Coaching is something you either have a knack for or you don’t – there are no steadfast rules.

As a start, I’d recommend “Co-Active Coaching” by Laura Whitworth et al.

Good luck.

What do you think about relationship coach?

What do you think about relationship coach?

I design a site for a relationship coach and I was wondering what is your guys opinion, the concept is – get educated on relationship before you go dating

What do you think?

thanks

Lukes Love Life answers:

I think the basic idea of the site is good, but the elevator style music is a little off putting. That’s just my opinion. And probably irrelevant to your question.
